Crown & bridge
A cap fitted over a damaged tooth, or a span that replaces a missing one.
What it is
A crown is a cap that covers and strengthens a single damaged or weakened tooth. A bridge replaces one or a few missing teeth by anchoring a false tooth to the crowns on either side. Both are fixed; you don't remove them yourself.
Who it's for
- A tooth that's cracked, heavily filled, or root canal–treated and needs protection
- Replacing one to three missing teeth in a row without implant surgery
- Reshaping a worn or misshapen tooth for both function and appearance
- Restoring a tooth's bite strength after significant decay
Who it isn't for
- A bridge requires shaving down the healthy teeth on either side of the gap to anchor it
- If those neighbouring teeth are healthy, an implant may be the better long-term choice since it doesn't touch them; our team will walk you through both before you decide
- Bridges also aren't a solution for replacing many missing teeth across an arch
If this is you, we'll say so at the first visit rather than after.
Questions
Questions people ask
What materials are crowns made of?
Common options are zirconia (strong, tooth-coloured) and PFM, porcelain fused to metal. Our team will recommend based on the tooth's location and the bite forces it takes.
How long do crowns and bridges last?
With good oral hygiene and regular check-ups, well-made crowns and bridges typically last many years, often a decade or more.
Is a bridge better than an implant?
Neither is universally better; it depends on the health of the neighbouring teeth and your bone. This is exactly the conversation our team has with you before recommending one.
How do I care for a bridge?
Normal brushing plus a floss threader or interdental brush to clean underneath the connecting piece, which regular floss can't reach.
What affects the cost?
The material chosen, the number of units (teeth) involved, and the lab work required for the specific case.
